Short answer
We build each page from named sources and cite every number. Costs are dated ranges from published cost guides, and where sources disagree we show both. Our editorial team reviews every page before it goes live. Our editors are researchers, not contractors, and a page names an outside expert only after that expert has signed off.
Our standard
Each page should be the most useful, accurate answer to one homeowner question: the direct answer first, the evidence for it, and a clear line where a professional should take over.
How we research
- Sources: manufacturers' installation and safety documents, building codes, city permit offices, state licensing boards and published cost guides.
- Costs: we use at least two independent published cost guides where they exist, show the publisher and year next to each range, and show both when they disagree. A range is never a quote.
- Local rules: permit and licensing facts come from the city or state office that issues them. If we cannot confirm a rule at the source, we leave it out.
Who reviews pages
Every page is read by the Garage Repair Quote editorial team before it goes live. Our editors are researchers and writers. They are not licensed contractors, plumbers or engineers, and the review checks accuracy against the cited sources. It is not a professional inspection of your home. When an outside expert reviews a page, the page shows their name, credential and review date.
Safety
Spring, cable and bottom bracket work is sent to a garage door technician, because springs hold hundreds of pounds of tension. We do not publish step-by-step instructions for work that is dangerous or needs a permit.
Advertising and referrals
Referral payments fund the site. They never change what a page says. See how we match.
Corrections
We fix verified errors within 5 business days and update the page's last-reviewed date. See corrections.
