Short answer
Pick the job and any extras, and the estimator adds published national ranges into one low to high figure. For example, a new single door runs $700 to $2,700 installed and a torsion spring pair $150 to $350, per HomeGuide. It is a planning range, not a quote.
Key facts
Estimate your garage door cost
Pick the job and anything it also needs. You get a national range from published cost guides, not a quote.
What the estimator covers
It prices the common garage door jobs: a new single or double door installed, torsion and extension spring replacement, cable, roller, off-track and panel repairs, opener installs and opener repair, and a general repair or service call. Extras you can add include haul-away of the old door, an insulated door, windows, a permit, an emergency or after-hours fee and a smart control add-on.
How the ranges are built
Each job and extra carries a low and high figure taken from a published national cost guide. The estimator adds the low figures together and the high figures together. Nothing is adjusted for your city, and nothing is averaged or smoothed.
- New doors use HomeGuide's installed ranges[1].
- Repairs use HomeGuide's January 2026 repair guide[2], with Fixr for rollers, off-track doors, service calls and emergency fees[5].
- Springs use HomeGuide[3] and HomeAdvisor's per-spring figure[7].
- Opener installs add HomeGuide's unit price for the drive type to its $150 to $400 labor range[4]. That sum is our arithmetic, not a published figure.
- The insulated door extra uses HomeAdvisor's upgrade range[8], and the windows extra is the gap between HomeGuide's plain and windowed door prices[1], again our arithmetic.
Why your quote may differ
National ranges hide big local swings. HomeGuide notes that labor rates, local codes and access change prices[1], and that minimum service fees may apply to small repairs[2]. Heavy, insulated or double doors sit at the top of the spring range[3]. Treat the result as a budget check, then compare it with written quotes.
Sources and dates
Figures come from HomeGuide (July 2025 to January 2026), HomeAdvisor (updated June 2026) and Fixr (January 2025), all accessed October 15, 2026. Each cost guide lists every range with its source.
When to call a pro
- Any spring, cable or off-track job: these parts are under high tension.
- When you want a firm price: the estimator cannot see your door.
- Ask each contractor for an itemized written quote you can compare line by line.
